Consistency of a jam is nothing but a measure of its fluidity. Right consistency yields the utmost satisfaction to the palate. Two raw materials are responsible for the consistency, namely pectin and sugar. Pectin is more known of the two contributors. Ask people about consistency of a jam, pectin is going to be shouted out aloud. But sugar contributes in its own and necessary way. Put sugar less than the requisite threshold value, and do whatever you may, even by adding any amount of pectin, the jam wouldn’t get the right consistency.
Consistency of a project is nothing but a measure of its relevance with changing times. Right consistency yields the utmost impact for the concerned. Two factors are responsible for the consistency, namely sense of purpose and resources at hand. As much as I have seen, the factor resources at hand is more known of the two contributors. It is indeed very necessary. But sense of purpose contributes in its own and necessary way. Have a vague sense of purpose, and do whatever you may, even by having zillion resources at hand, the project wouldn’t have the right consistency. Because then one doesn’t know what to do with them.
Kumaon Grameen Udyog’s (my host) mother organization, Chirag, which earlier was the proprietor of the fruit processing unit, had been allocated funds to purchase equipment related to fruit processing. It did. A lot. As a result, now we supposedly, at KGU, have lots of resources at hand. Resources as per Chirag, but clutter as per KGU. A lot of management changes, at all levels, have happened at Chirag since when it was allocated the funds, and the initial sense of purpose for the unit, which should have resulted in engagement, got dissolved and became vague all the while, and only the bureaucratic process of procurement was carried out with no sense of direction.
Perhaps not only too many cooks spoil the broth, a constant change in cooks equally spoils the broth. We have resources at hand but without a sense of purpose. Hence, the name clutter.
Only one thing comes to mind when I think of how to avoid such situations. One must not leave the cooking midway, be it of the jams or the projects. That will save us a lot of money in an already poorly managed society. Cooking the right consistency jams and projects is the way forward because they taste good.
